Child and Family Therapy

While concern for your little one’s big feelings may be the reason you are seeking support, your child is most likely not the only one struggling. Family therapy sessions provide space for all family members to explore their responses to the child's challenges, fostering solutions that benefit the entire family. Family therapy supports not only the child's social, emotional, and behavioral development but also empowers parents and caregivers with the understanding, insight, and strategies to better help their child no matter the circumstance.

Behavior is a form of communication. If one or more of these phrases could be used to describe your child, it very well may be time to ask for help:

  • My child is frequently sad, irritable, rigid, or restless.

  • My child is overly fearful or anxious.

  • My child responds aggressively when distressed.

  • My child has trouble concentrating or completing tasks.

  • My child is much more energetic than others.

  • My child struggles to separate from me and/or other caregivers.

  • My child has difficulty in group settings.

Additionally, if you are seeking to better understand your child’s current functioning, learn new strategies to more effectively meet your child’s needs, are hoping to gain diagnostic clarification, looking for resources and/or referrals to support your child in their group or school setting, Little Minds Family Therapy is here to help.

Trauma Treatment

Little Minds Family Therapy is committed to creating and holding a safe space for children and families to heal.

If your child has survived a dangerous event such as a car accident or natural disaster, observed violence between family members, been exposed to conflict within their community, lost a caregiver or sibling, or has been the victim of physical or sexual abuse, trauma specific treatment is essential.

During the intake process, you will be asked to identify any adverse or traumatic experiences of which your child may have been exposed. Trauma related symptoms can be disguised as or combined with a variety of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges and will be closely evaluated and monitored across the course of treatment.

Your choice to engage in trauma specific treatment is your child’s first step towards healing.

The COSP program is a virtual group for caregivers that meets for 1.5 hours weekly for 8 weeks. COSP is primarily used with caregivers who have at least one child who is less than 7 years old.
